Michelin Guide Tokyo Adds 10 New Restaurants in September

The Michelin Guide added 10 new restaurants to its Tokyo selection in an update published on 16 September 2026. The additions were listed on the guide’s website with a New marker and were recognised ahead of the guide’s formal announcements of stars and Bib Gourmand designations. The update reflects inspectors’ recent visits to restaurants across the city. Tokyo holds one of the largest Michelin selections of any city, and the additions expand that listing further.

The new entries cover a wide range of cuisines. They include Mediterranean, French and Italian restaurants alongside Japanese establishments and venues specialising in sushi and yoshoku, the Western-influenced style of Japanese cooking. The mix reflects the breadth of dining available in Tokyo, from European cooking to traditional local formats found throughout the city. The additions were spread across the guide’s Tokyo listing rather than concentrated in a single category.

Among the additions is Sefino, a Mediterranean restaurant that the guide links to the chef’s Majorcan background and an approach it describes as emotional gastronomy. Another is Girandole by Alain Ducasse, a French restaurant presented as a contemporary interpretation of brasserie cooking. Both sit within the European strand of the new listings and join a Tokyo selection already known for its large number of recognised restaurants.

The Japanese entries include Yoshoku Restaurant Marronnier, which specialises in Western-influenced Japanese dishes and is noted for an omurice made with a long-cooked demi-glace. Sushi Kiraku, another addition, prepares nigiri with sake pairings in mind, placing it among the traditional Japanese entries on the new list. The remaining new restaurants span further Japanese and European styles across several of the city’s districts, adding to a selection that already covers a wide spread of price points and formats.

The 10 restaurants have been added to the guide as recognised establishments but have not yet been assigned star ratings or Bib Gourmand status. Michelin confirms those distinctions at separate ceremonies and updates during the year. For now, the venues appear in the Tokyo selection marked as new, indicating that inspectors have judged them worthy of inclusion in the guide’s current listing for the city.
