Vingelrundan, the wine run that began in Gothenburg this spring, is heading to Malmö and Umeå in 2027. The event is organised by Gothenburg-based Wine Mechanics, which announced the two new cities after editions in Gothenburg and Stockholm.
The idea is straightforward. Participants walk or jog a route of roughly 10km that links a selection of wine bars in the host city, with snacks and refreshments served along the way. The day then ends with a long party. Walking the route is just as acceptable as jogging it, so the pace is set by the bars rather than by the clock. The first Vingelrundan took place in Gothenburg in April 2026, and the format reached Stockholm in September of the same year.
Falstaff reports that the response in both cities was very positive and, above all, curious. Gothenburg is home ground for Wine Mechanics, while the Stockholm run showed that the concept could work outside its base. Owner Kenneth Gustafsson puts the appeal down to the relaxed tone. People want good wine and a good time, he said, “without it having to be so formal”, adding that this suits the company well.
Malmö was picked for its strong food and drink culture and for an audience that the organisers describe as curious and well informed. Wine Mechanics says the Malmö edition will not be a copy of the earlier runs. Instead, local partners and local flavours will give it its own character. The after-party will be held at the production site of Fruktstereo, a Malmö producer based in Västra Hamnen, which is working with Wine Mechanics on the event. The exact form of that partnership is being kept under wraps for now, although Gustafsson summed it up as “wine meets fruit, grapes meet apples”.
Umeå will take the run to northern Sweden for the first time, which means the event will have visited four Swedish cities within roughly two years of its first outing in Gothenburg. No further details about the Umeå edition, such as local partners or the venue for its after-party, were shared. Gustafsson also hinted that more cities and more collaborators could follow, but he did not name any of them. Dates, routes, participating bars and ticket details for the Malmö and Umeå runs were not part of the announcement, so anyone hoping to take part will need to wait for the organisers to release the 2027 programme.
