Mr Bronck at Sheraton Stockholm Adds Nordic Grill Dishes and a Friday Wine Club

Mr Bronck, the New York-style brasserie inside the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, has introduced a new menu with a stronger Nordic character. The restaurant at Vasagatan 2, open for lunch and dinner, has also started a Friday wine evening called Open Bottle Society, run by its sommelier team.

The restaurant is named after Jonas Bronck, the Swedish pioneer credited with giving The Bronx its name, and the idea is a Manhattan-style brasserie cooked with Swedish ingredients. The new snacks include oysters and vendace roe served with potato and smetana. Starters include lemon-cured halibut and a grilled lobster tail with pumpkin and sea buckthorn. The dishes are bold and big on flavour, and Berndt Dahl says the update brings more Nordic flavours and ingredients into the concept.

The grill is the centre of the menu. Diners can share a T-bone or a tomahawk steak for two, or choose dry-aged rib eye, venison petit tender or monkfish, with sauces ranging from salsa verde to brown butter béarnaise. A rib eye and lobster surf and turf is also on the list. Janni Berndt Dahl, the restaurant manager and head sommelier, said she is always drawn to the grill. “There’s a familiarity to the dishes, but also small Nordic details,” she said.

Open Bottle Society runs on Fridays from 4pm to 8pm and is built around three wines and the stories behind them. Guests can order a single glass, a flight of three 7.5cl pours to compare all three, or a full glass of the one they like best. A flight with snacks costs around 40 euros, and guests can stay on for dinner. Berndt Dahl, who is also president of the Swedish Sommelier Association, hosts with sommelier Amandah and describes the evenings as “more of a social wine club” than a formal tasting.

The autumn programme began on 9 October with a contest in which each host argued for their favourite wines and the audience chose the winner. A guest edition with an outside voice follows on 16 October, and on 23 October an Old World versus New World evening will compare the same grapes grown in different places. Cocktails are handled by Sally’s, the sister bar, which serves three signature martinis at SEK 95 each on Thursdays. On Wednesdays, a sharing grill menu for two, with four cuts, four sides and two sauces, costs SEK 650 per person.
