Carolina Herrera Marks 45 Years With a Love Letter to New York

Carolina Herrera marked its 45th anniversary at New York Fashion Week with a spring 2027 collection staged at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. The house was founded in 1981, and the show returned it to the city where it began. The runway was lined with thousands of yellow tulips, setting a bright stage for a collection built around the label’s long association with New York. The anniversary gave the house a reason to look back at its history while keeping the presentation firmly rooted in the present.

Creative director Wes Gordon presented 63 looks that leaned into glamour and playfulness. He described his aim as making clothes with soul, clothes that are fun, and the collection paired formal eveningwear with lighter, more expressive pieces. The anniversary framing gave Gordon room to revisit the house’s signatures while pointing the label forward, and the staging kept the focus on the city that shaped it. Bright color and detailed finishing carried across the run of looks, in step with a wider mood on the New York schedule.

New York references ran through the collection. A collaboration with The New Yorker produced an embroidered rendering of a magazine cover linked to Herrera’s 1981 debut. Andy Warhol portraits appeared on handbags and a mini dress, while frog motifs nodded to the restaurant La Grenouille and black and white cookie earrings offered another local wink. Jewelry was created in collaboration with Taffin and its founder James de Givenchy, adding to the show’s focus on craft and detail.

The front row drew a mix of actors and public figures, including Pamela Anderson, Alexa Chung, Natalia Dyer, Ego Nwodim, Lucy Hale and Camila Mendes. Their presence underlined the house’s continued reach across film, television and fashion, and added to the celebratory tone of the anniversary event.

The show reaffirmed Carolina Herrera’s identity as a New York house, using the anniversary to connect its history with its present under Gordon’s direction. Rather than staging the milestone abroad, the label kept it in the city tied to its founding, and leaned on local landmarks and cultural touchstones to tell that story. The spring 2027 collection now joins the season’s other New York offerings as the international shows continue in the other fashion capitals.
