Queen Silvia wore a large, glittering flower brooch to the Global Child Forum at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on Tuesday 13 October. She attended the children’s welfare summit with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Princess Sofia. The brooch, which has a sparkling, almost crocheted look, has been seen on the Queen before.
Silvia built the rest of her outfit around classic pieces. She chose a black and white tweed jacket and a pair of Chanel ballet flats, and added pearl earrings and a necklace hung with small pendant drops. The mix of pearls, diamonds and tweed kept the look polished and well suited to a working summit. On her wrist was a stack of bracelets which, according to the royal fashion blog UFO No More, included a Cartier Love bracelet and a white gold and diamond knot bangle. The jewellery site The Court Jeweller did not identify the maker of the floral brooch.
This was not the brooch’s first outing this year. The Queen also pinned it on in August for a reception at the Royal Palace for Ukrainian children wounded in the war, an event that Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine also attended. Princess Sofia took a sharper approach for the forum, dressing entirely in black in a turtleneck and tailored wide-leg trousers. She lifted the look with gold-toned accessories, including a belt with a gold buckle and a gold bracelet on her left wrist.
The Global Child Forum, which began in 2009, brings business leaders together to discuss children’s rights and welfare. In his remarks, the King urged attendees to treat the needs and rights of young people with real seriousness. He acknowledged that not every decision would be easy and that not every interest could be met, but said that taking children seriously meant listening to them and weighing the long-term effects of choices made on their behalf.
The Queen closed the summit. She said progress should be measured by whether a child is safer, healthier, heard and able to thrive. She then gave delegates a practical task for when they returned to their organisations: rethink one decision, listen to one young voice and take one concrete action. The royal household has published both speeches on its website, and photographs of the day were taken by Jessica Gow for the TT news agency.
