A $20,000 Hermès bag, a $40 baseball cap, and a London-born pop star who dresses like she’s lived in Greenwich Village for years.
Dua Lipa was born and raised in London. Her street style says New York.
She was photographed earlier this week heading into Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village, wearing a black-and-white polka-dot halterneck midi dress by Realisation Par, heeled leather boots from Chrome Hearts and a stack of gold jewellery.
The bag was the anchor: a black Hermès Birkin, a style that can retail for as much as $20,000. She wore it with a Yankees baseball cap. Boardroom to ballpark in one outfit, with no apparent anxiety about the gap between the two price points.
Lipa has never treated her Birkins as untouchable objects. In 2024 she was seen carrying one the way Jane Birkin herself did — stuffed full, buried under kitschy keychains and patterned headscarves. There’s something quietly satisfying about that. A bag should carry evidence of the life being lived around it rather than conceal it.
Caps aren’t her only recent headwear habit. Bandanas have been in heavy rotation this past month, paisley ones folded and knotted over the crown of her head. One outing paired a dark blue version with a lacy black slipdress, moto boots and a bright yellow shoulder bag. Another put a red bandana with a cherry bomber jacket, a white tee and blue jeans.
The formula, if there is one: something extremely expensive, something extremely ordinary, worn with equal indifference.
