SMHI Flags High Fire Danger Across Southern and Central Sweden for Tuesday

Brief return of heat brings elevated forest fire risk to Götaland, Svealand and the southern Norrland coast, with gusty winds compounding conditions in some areas.

Sweden’s meteorological institute, SMHI, has warned of a forest fire risk in several parts of the country on Tuesday, as warmer weather returns after a spell of grey conditions.

The heat won’t last long. The fire risk that comes with it is the more immediate concern.

Northwestern Götaland, parts of western Svealand and the coastal areas of southern Norrland face a locally high to very high risk of forest fire. The same applies to parts of southern Götaland and southern Öland.

In northern Götaland and eastern Svealand, the risk is rated high to very high, and there it comes with gusty winds, which can spread a fire faster and make it harder to contain.

Anyone in the affected areas is urged to check whether a local fire ban is in force before lighting anything outdoors.
