The team behind Kødbyens Fiskebar is getting ready to open Overfor Tyren, a large new all-day restaurant in Copenhagen’s meatpacking district. The name means “across from the bull”, and the venue sits on the district’s main square, directly opposite the group’s established fish restaurant. The opening is expected some time this autumn.
Overfor Tyren is moving into a former sausage factory and will spread across three separate spaces. The restaurant on the ground floor will open at 8am and close at midnight, the first floor will be used for events and the basement will become a nightclub. Chef and founder Anders Selmer sees the building as a new entertainment hub for Kødbyen, giving guests a reason to stay in the district from breakfast until late at night.
Danish designer Henrik Vibskov has handled the interior. He has kept much of the building’s industrial feel, with white tiles, steel and brushed aluminium, and set it against a more playful style of his own. All the furniture has been made to order, and the walls will carry works by several Danish artists, which gives the rooms a gallery element alongside the dining.
The cooking draws on southern Europe, China and further afield. Breakfast will bring bread and pastries baked in house, fuet sausages, eggs and a daily selection of at least 15 cheeses. Lunch leans towards southern European plates such as tortilla and a goat’s cheese salad. In the evening, guests can order snacks or a two- or three-course dinner that changes every day. Selmer said one of the first set menus could start with a mushroom dish, followed by a meat or fish main course and a vegetarian alternative.
Wine will be a large part of the offer. Red, white and orange wines will be poured on tap, and guests will also be able to order from the group’s full cellar of around 40,000 bottles. Most of the list is made up of low-intervention wines, and Selmer prefers clean, light styles over heavier ones. A firm opening date has not yet been given, and the team has only said that the doors should open during autumn 2026. When it does open, the restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner under one roof, with the event floor and the basement club adding to what the old factory can offer.
